Liquid Stranger Goes Berserk On Night 3 At Mission Ballroom

On November 19, 2022, Liquid Stranger closed out his three-day show run at Mission Ballroom with a wild Sounds of Wakaan set.

Opening Support
Chef Boyarbeatz

Chef Boyarbeatz was the first opener of the night, and many were very excited! He started the night with deep free-form bass wubs and got the crowd warmed up and moving.

Tape B

Tape B was the next opener and one of the most anticipated by audience members! Since the release of Driptapes Volume 3, many have been raving about Tape B and his quick come-up into the spotlight. He released a new EP titled A Dose of Nostalgia at the beginning of the week, and everyone became more excited to see the spicy tunes played out in his set. This night out of the three was completely sold out, and many people pulled up early to catch Tape B’s set. Tape B’s usual style merges old and new dubstep styles, which he threw down flawlessly while mixing in other artists like Zeds Dead.

Ravenscoon

Ravenscoon was the next opener, and he came in swinging with energy! He is a fan favorite around the Denver area and brings in a heavy, deep penetrating sound that strikes you in your core. Ravenscoon played a fantastic set that elevated the crowd’s energy and made way for the rest of the night.

Shlump

Shlump was the next opener, and many were excited to have him as direct support! Known for his wavy extraterrestrial wubs, Shlump brought in a different vibe and got the crowd wiggling their limbs. It was so much fun to see him and refreshing to hear something different from the openers!

Rusko

Rusko was the last opener before Liquid Stranger. Many were ecstatic to see this legend show up on the support lineup. Although a significant majority of people in the bass scene are still warming up to Drum and Bass, there’s a handful that love it and was happy to hear it from Rusko! Many danced as crazy as the famous Rusko, whose known for taking his shoes off on stage and going bonkers. Having Rusko as direct support was a great way to sprinkle some other genres into the night, and he did terrifically.

Liquid Stranger

On this last night of the three-day run, Liquid Stranger dedicated it to the Sounds of Wakaan. This meant that he was going to play as much music as possible, including his and others’ music on Wakaan. Just like night one, once he started going in, he didn’t let up until the second he was finished. He played all of his songs off his new Dimensions EP which was exciting to see! This made for a different experience that people wouldn’t expect out of a standard Liquid Stranger set. Not only did he play his new music, but he also delved into other subgenres and even played some Mac Miller! In addition, he also mixed some of his older tunes like Gunslinger and Jetpacks with rap songs like Drop It Like It’s Hot. According to fans, this set was one of the heaviest sets they’ve seen from Liquid Stranger!

Conclusion

Overall, the last day of the three-night Liquid Stranger run at Mission Ballroom was amazing! The stacked opening support acts threw down and got the crowd moving. Liquid Stranger’s last set was electrifying and so much fun. We are so proud and happy for the Wakaan collective and the work that was put in to make this weekend so incredible. We look forward to seeing how all of the support acts and Liquid Stranger himself continue to shine.

Liquid Stranger Goes Downtempo at Mission Ballroom Night 2

Imagine this:

  • It’s night two of Liquid Stranger‘s three-night run in Denver.
  • The theme is downtempo.
  • The whole crowd has caught the vibe.

Thousands of bass music fans gathered from Thursday to Saturday to catch three diverse sets from Liquid Stranger at Mission Ballroom, along with 16 genre-spanning openers. Friday night offered an extraordinary chance to slow down, groove, and experience relaxed beats backed by impressive production and a PK Trinity Black sound system.

Liquid Stranger during his downtempo set

Liquid Stranger during his downtempo set
Wakaan & Beyond

Martin Staaf, better known as Liquid Stranger, is the enigmatic Swedish label head of two imprints. He first launched Wakaan, the celebrated freeform bass label with a cult-like following. Then came Sskwan, the chilled-out flipside of Wakaan. Staaf’s main label already hosts its own music festival, boasts over 50 major releases, and features tons of heavyweight bass artists. Some of the recent releases come from maintays like Rusko, Truth, LSDREAM, Jantsen, Zeke Beats, and Peekaboo.

Night two was the chance for Sskwan to shine. While Sskwan may be Staaf’s younger imprint (announced just a few years ago at Wakaan Festival), it has already made a big splash by asserting a larger presence for mellow music within the dubstep scene. Recently, Sskwan’s first release came out in 2021 from US-based producer LUZCID. It has since expanded to include Au5, Shlump, and LIGHTCODE (an alias of LSDREAM). The sounds of Sskwan filled Mission Ballroom on Friday, as all the artists on the lineup brought their best downtempo music.

Night Two’s Roster

To kick off the night, the show featured up-and-coming acts in bass music, Sharlitz Web, and REDRUM. Next, Mad Zach offered glitchy tracks over black-and-white visuals, and ATTYA kept things slow and bass-heavy. Finally, the mysterious Tripp St. closed the openers with his funky glitch hop.

All of these artists perfectly supported the theme of the evening. For example, Sharlitz Web just announced her debut EP on Sskwan, Spider Lily, which is coming out on December 1st. REDRUM has already dropped a single on the label with “Phases.” While neither Mad Zach nor ATTYA has official connections to the label, both artists mastered the chill, bass-heavy sound of the night. Tripp St., on the other hand, had the highest energy set of the night, but it was the perfect contrast before Liquid Stranger’s all-original and downtempo performance.

Liquid Stranger’s Downtempo Set

Longtime Liquid Stranger fans may have been among the most excited for his night two set. The downtempo vibe harkened back to his early classics from 2015 and 2016. Staaf began the night by promising to play those highly requested songs, and he did not disappoint.

The laser production was immaculate, the sound system was booming, and the music, of course, was the star of the show. Staaf played out fan favorites like his 2016 “Trigger Happy,” the number-one song fans requested online. He also used his Night Two set to shout out some of his collaborators who did not appear on the lineup for his Mission Ballroom three-night run. Staaf honored LSDREAM with their song “Potions,” and then he had a portion of his set dedicated to CloZee.

Liquid Stranger’s set winded down by previewing his upcoming EP on Sskwan called Unity, which will be released later this year. Staaf spoke directly to his audience to end the night with fitting closing thoughts. He hoped the downtempo set was healing and rejuvenating in preparation for the full-tilt energy of night three of Liquid Stranger at Mission Ballroom.

Liquid Stranger Gets It Poppin’ at Mission Ballroom Night 1

On November 17, 2022 the legendary Liquid Stranger returned to Mission Ballroom for the first day of a 3 night run in Denver, Colorado.

Who is Liquid Stranger?

Liquid Stranger, also known as Martin Staaf of Varberg, Sweden, is a pioneer in the bass music world. With an early background in engineering and producing for jazz and rock bands in the late 90s, he started the Liquid Stranger project in 2003. In his early days, his goal was to fuse different genres of music into intricate soundscapes that encompass all. In 2015, he introduced his new label, Wakaan, which gave free-form bass artists a place to create and release. Liquid Stranger’s sound is ever-changing and incorporates multiple genres, including dubstep, free-form bass, drum and bass, and downtempo. Now in 2022, with a plentiful amount of excellent releases, a successful label, and die-hard fans, it’s safe to say that he is much more than a producer. Martin advocates for free expression, female leadership within Wakaan, and creating a safe space for all.

Opening Support
DRINKURWATER

The first opener of the night was DRINKURWATER, whose been on a quick come-up this year, releasing some heaters! Many were excited to see him on the lineup and have him out in Denver! He played a super high-energy set with hits like WET WET and Ear Tickle that got the crowd prepped for the rest of the night.

Sully

The next opener was Sully, and everyone was ecstatic to have him as opening support! Again, with some of his biggest releases this year, he came up very quickly. Coming in hot, he threw hits like his Tape B collab, Impulse, and other hits like Misfits with Liquid Stranger himself. The energy shot through the roof during his set.

TVBOO

Fan favorite and Denver local TVBOO was the next opener on the support lineup. Known for his hilarious personality and antics, his visuals and set followed suit with the craziness. He played an edit of the viral Youtube video of the Harry Potter puppets singing Severus Snape, and the crowd completely lost it! There were also the most ridiculous visuals of TVBOO himself clad in his famous hillbilly outfits being throw down with some wonky tunes that made everyone go wild.

Zeke Beats b2b Jantsen

The next supporting act was Zeke Beats b2b Jantsen, and many were excited for this b2b because of how amazing both artists are on their own! Many were curious to see how this b2b was going to play out, and they did not disappoint. Their set had each of their logos projected on the screen side by side, which was super awesome to see! Zeke Beats came in with the dirtiest live scratching, and Jantsen came through with his heavyweight sound. The combination of these two legends was so much fun to experience, and the crowd couldn’t help but go nuts.

Kill The Noise

The last opener before Liquid Stranger was the infamous Kill The Noise! Many weren’t sure what they would hear in this set because of the different genres he usually plays. What an incredible surprise this set was. As the first song dropped, so did everyone’s mouths as they realized this would be one of the heaviest sets of the night. KTN was throwing down dubstep but not your usual dubstep. It was the type of dubstep that started to evolve in 2018 to get deeper, bouncier, and denser. To be brought back to that time period was a pleasure, and the energy was at an all-time high. We’re thrilled that Liquid Stranger switched things up by adding Kill The Noise to the support lineup.

This night of the run was the all original throwback set from Liquid Stranger. For many who’ve known and loved Martin since his early days of releasing music, this set was a dream come true. From the moment he stepped on stage from the moment he departed, there was no letting up as banger after banger ripped through Mission Ballroom. The man laid down oldies like Rocket Fuel, Creature, Burn Like the Sun, and much more. Not only did he play old tunes that many have probably been chasing, but he threw down VIPs of old songs. He played the VIPs of Ripple, Don’t Stop, and Bombaclaad Star, which he pulled out a Dubstep VIP of that he had forgotten he made! The amount of music he could fit into an hour time slot was amazing!

Production

This year, the production was seriously top-notch. With Liquid Stranger bringing in the full PK Trinity sound system to Mission Ballroom, it made the biggest difference in the entire experience. The openers are usually quieter than the headliner, but the PKs ensured every artist came in with a bang. Earplugs are always a must at any show, but especially this one because of how penetrating the sound was. Mix the PKs with the incredible laser production and melty visuals, and you’d be sure to transcend. We’re so stoked that Liquid Stranger brought in such a great production and continues to level up!

Conclusion

Overall, Liquid Stranger on the first night of his three-night run at Mission Ballroom was incredible from start to finish. We are so happy to have experienced such excellent opening support acts and a throwback set from him! We can’t wait to see how he will continue to evolve.

Malaa Throws Down for His Biggest Show Yet in Denver

Malaa Throws Down for His Biggest Show Yet in Denver

The French producer and DJ known as Malaa has become one of the biggest names in house music. G-house, to be exact. This producer is a part of Tchami’s Confession Label and has been pumping out tracks for the past seven years. On Spotify alone, Malaa has over 1.3 million monthly listeners! Some of his most notorious tracks (see what we did there?) include “Notorious,” “Revolt” featuring Jacknife, and “Made In France” with DJ Snake, Tchami, and Mercer.

Malaa‘s identity is unknown, as this mysterious performer wears a black balaclava on stage and doesn’t speak into the microphone during his sets. On September 30th, Malaa released his debut album, Don Malaa. This 14-track album includes just under 45 minutes of dance-worthy deep house music. The album also contains a handful of collaborations with talented artists, including Fivio Foreign, Jadakiss, Ghostface Killah, and more.

The Don Malaa Album Tour

On Saturday, October 1st, house-heads traveled to the Mission Ballroom in Denver, Colorado, to see Malaa for themselves. The Don Malaa tour is Malaa‘s most extensive tour to date and touches down in cities across the United States. Also on the lineup for the show were RC3 and Wax Motif.

RC3

Attendees wasted no time filling the venue to see RC3 kick off the night. This producer and DJ are local to the Denver area. He has played alongside artists, including John Summit, Jauz, and Loud Luxury. In addition to this, he’s also played at Global Dance Festival! During his set, he was able to get the crowd energized and ready for the night. RC3 played some crowd favorites that everyone was familiar with, along with brand-new unreleased tunes. He even brought out Masteria as a special guest!

Wax Motif

Australian producer and DJ Wax Motif, was next to take the stage. Although his style of music can be classified as G-house, he draws inspiration from R&B, disco, UK bass, and more. Throughout the years, he’s had releases on various record labels, such as Tchami’s Confession and Diplo’s Mad Decent. He recently released his highly anticipated 17-track debut album, House of Wax.

During his set, Wax Motif stood behind a DJ booth that had a small screen for visuals in front of it where his logo flashed in bright colors. “Bunda” with Dances With White Girls was one of the first tracks he played, which got the entire crowd dancing. By now, the venue seemed at capacity already. At one point, Wax Motif stopped the music and was overwhelmed by everyone cheering for him, but he deserved it!

Malaa

During a brief set change, the crew unveiled brand new production; let us tell you; it did not disappoint. The large set almost mimicked an abandoned building with portions of chain link fence, bricks, and graffiti-looking artwork. Where the windows would be, there were large LED screens that flashed changing visuals throughout the show. Malaa wore his black balaclava, of course, and a red leather jacket.

Throughout the night, Malaa played classic tracks of his, such as “Notorious” along with remixes of other popular tracks like “Drugs From Amsterdam” by Mau P. Additionally, he played a bunch of new tracks from Don Malaa. The crowd went absolutely wild for tracks like “Hypnotic” and “How it is“. Cryo and colorful lights added to the experience. The crowd didn’t even dissipate until his set was about over, and it was fantastic to see everyone enjoying themselves.

Denver Went Deep

The Don Malaa tour was simply unforgettable. Debuting brand new stage production for his largest Denver show yet, Malaa brought the heat yet again. After the show, he even took to social media to share how special the show was. He was super impressed that everyone knew the brand new songs from the album that just came out! Every single artist on the lineup did a stellar job at engaging the crowd and filling the venue with G-house music.

Flume Made His Debut At Mission Ballroom

Flume Made His Debut At Mission Ballroom

Flume has been one of the brightest artists in the last decade. From Grammy Award winner to known for throwing the wildest shows, he’s one artist that should be on everyone’s bucket list. New to Colorado since his last performance is the Mission Ballroom, which he chose to perform at for the start of his three-day Colorado run. This venue is uniquely intimate with its massive size, but it also provides a level of intimacy. We could not think of a better start to the long week and a welcoming into town for Flume.

The Rise of Quiet Bison

Flume calculatedly picked artists for this show that could match his energy and wavelength. Quiet Bison is a rising act on the scene and is only getting started. Ahead of his years, he put a stamp on the future bass genre before breaking the age of 21. This is from gaining the respect and attention of Flume and other mainstays like DROELOE. He has recently been credited with working on the electrifying track “Escape” off Flume’s new album “Palaces“. Some don him as Flume‘s protege, and with his performance, it was notable that he’ll have a long future.

Prospa Brought UK Energy

Hailing from the United Kingdom, Prospa came to the states with a clear passion for performing. They have picked up a unique style to bring to the fray by experimenting with genres from heavy metal, jazz, and deep house. With being heavily influenced by The Chemical Brothers and Daft Punk, their vision is clear to stand out. Flume having them perform on his tour showcases that he believes they’ll help shape the electronic genre for the future to come. Most notably, “Prayer” by Prospa had the crowd memorized. The constant buildup and changeups throughout their set were perfect to prepare us for the chaotic energy of Flume.

Flume Touches Down For the First Time At Mission Ballroom

The last set Flume played in Colorado was at the storied Red Rocks, and now he was performing at the venue that is famous for being modeled after it. Mission Ballroom’s sound and intimacy are unmatched for this reason. Essentially, he sets the stage perfectly to bring all of his tricks to the table. The stage had these door-like structures that revolved around the stage, showcasing bright lights and wavy visuals.

Playing a catalog spanning his whole career, he always found a way to tie it back to his newest album, “Palaces”. He started with a bang during the first portion of his set, playing “You & Me“. This indicated that no bars were going to be held back during the evening. Flume also had KUCKA come out for “Escape“, which was a perfect representation of “Palaces”. The roaring bass danced with her smooth vocals and created a true spectacle.

Flume Started His Three Night Run Off With A Bang

All the way from the production of Mission Ballroom, the openers, and Flume it was a night for the ages. Unmatched energy throughout the evening also contributed to his overall success with this performance. Mission Ballroom hopefully will be a recurring tradition in the years to come, as it became Flume’s playground.

KAYZO’s New Breed Tour Touches Down In The Mile High City

KAYZO’s New Breed Tour Touches Down In The Mile High City

Hardstyle, dubstep, and metal are a few genres that KAYZO fuses to create his distinctive sound. This Los Angeles-based producer and DJ are an Icon Collective alumni who has been perfecting his craft for over a decade. In addition to touring and performing at world-renowned music festivals, including EDC Las Vegas, Electric Zoo, and Lollapalooza, he founded his label, Welcome Records. He also hosts his own radio show titled Doghouse Radio!

On Spotify alone, KAYZO has over 1.3 million monthly listeners. This summer, he released a brand new full-length album titled NEW BREED. This twenty-track masterpiece contains over an hour of hard-hitting originals and collaborations with artists such as ATLiens and Phase One. If you haven’t listened to KAYZO‘s music yet, we suggest you listen to “Wake Up” with RIOT, “Suffocate” with BAD OMENS, and “The Sickness” with GHOSTKID.

KAYZO’s New Breed Tour

On Saturday, August 27th, headbangers, bass heads, metal heads, and anyone looking to rage gathered at the Mission Ballroom in Denver, Colorado. Joining KAYZO were SweetTooth, HOL!, Emo Nite, and NETSKY.

As soon as doors opened, attendees wasted no time heading into the venue. This venue holds nearly four thousand people. However, the stage can be moved depending on the expected capacity for the night. This is an awesome way to create the feel of an intimate, packed show, no matter the size. This venue has a spot for everyone between the large floor area, tiered seating in the back, and two VIP balconies. Multiple bars, restrooms, and water fountains can be found throughout the venue, along with food and merchandise.

SweetTooth

SweetTooth did not come to mess around, proven by the experimental dubstep that he played throughout his set. Basic colorful overhead lights set the mood along with his own graphics on an LED screen behind the DJ table. He also played a new remix that he did for one of KAYZO‘s tracks. At the end of his set, he sang a pop-punk track from the band he’s also a part of!

HOL!

HOL! took the stage next. This French producer and DJ had an awesome amount of energy and stage presence, helping to get the crowd more engaged and ready for the rest of the night. He played some brand new original tracks during his set and even started a wall of death and an all-girls mosh pit. Some really cool graphics took over the LED screen behind him as he interacted with the crowd.

Emo Nite

According to Emo Nite, they are “Not a band. Not DJs. We throw parties for the music we love.” This traveling party celebrating throwback pop-punk and rock are almost always on tour. And, they also jumped onto a few of KAYZO’s tour dates! Although this set seemed a little bit surprising and unexpected at first, the crowd absolutely loved it.

Songs from artists like Fall Out Boy and Blink-182 were tastefully mixed with pop and electronic songs while visuals from 2000’s commercials and video clips were played. The two DJs on stage had tons of energy, and so did the crowd!

NETSKY

The final artist to take the stage before KAYZO was Belgium drum-and-bass legend NETSKY. More rows of lights were added to the stage production for this set, and it was clear that the anticipation and energy in the venue continued to grow. NETSKY played many drum-and-bass songs that the crowd knew and sang along to. Meanwhile, trippy, brightly colored graphics swirled around behind him. At one point, he played the Luude remix of Men At Work’s “Down Under” which seemed to be a hit. Then, he finished off his set with his track “Let Me Hold You” with Hybrid Minds.

By this point in the night, the floor was pretty full but not squished. There was more room in the back on the tiered seating, and the VIP balconies were next to empty. Even though the venue looked and felt full, everyone had space to breathe, and there weren’t any lines for drinks or bathrooms.

KAYZO

After a brief set-change to prepare the stage for KAYZO’s headline set, the man finally made his way to the stage. The combination of his music, stage presence, and production truly did transform the venue into another world. In addition to the enormous LED screen behind him, the front of the DJ booth was also LED, merging visuals with what was on the big screen. He also had additional light rigs on either side of the stage, with bright light bars and more lights that shined out into the audience. These moved in sync with the music, creating an effect similar to lasers. And, get this, he also had cryo that joined his other production during the drops.

In addition to bangin’ originals like “Welcome To The Doghouse“, he also played remixes of Shouse’s “Love Tonight,” and Baha Men’s “Who Let The Dogs Out“. Then, he played a sound byte saying, “Hey mom, could you pick me up?” that immediately transformed into a crazy dubstep drop. Let me tell you, his graphics were a bit scary and hell-ish, so hopefully, nobody had to call their mom.

KAYZO was so much fun to watch! One thing that stood out about his stage presence was his big, strong arm movements. He took control of the stage and the crowd, which you don’t see too often. He even instructed the crowd to go feral, which everyone seemed to follow through with (LOL). Headbangers took charge of the rail while multiple mosh pits could be seen in the crowd.

Towards the end of his set, he brought out a special guest called “bone daddy”. Enter: CALCIUM. They played a song together before KAYZO brought out his girlfriend, CRAY. They performed their song, “Love Me Hate Me” with De’Wayne together. Couple goals, right? At the end of the night, KAYZO paused the show to bring a few fans up on stage, and the venue got to witness a proposal! What an ending to a crazy memorable night.

Good Night, Ragers

KAYZO’s New Breed Tour was an amazing show from start to finish. Each artist on the lineup played a unique set that interacted with the crowd and got them ready for the rest of the night. Hardstyle, metal, dubstep, and more flooded the venue, with everyone dancing and headbanging. If you love to rage, you should check out a KAYZO show!

Modest Mouse Returned To Colorado In Their Prime

Modest Mouse Returned To Colorado In Their Prime

Modest Mouse is a band that has been a main staple in the indie-rock scene for nearly 20 years. Their albums have continually shaped the whole genre. Indie Rock in the 2000s wouldn’t have been nearly as widespread on radio channels without the success of “Float On”. With such an expansive catalog, it’s a treat to see the six-piece band at any capacity, but Mission Ballroom provided the perfect setting for them.

The Cribs Returned To Denver After 15 Years

The Cribs are a band originally hailing from Wakefield, West Yorkshire from the early 2000s with an electric approach to the Indie Rock genre. With heavy influences from The Strokes, Pavement, and The Smiths, they have all of the ripping rifts to put on a show. Playing to their advantage, this was the perfect setup for their long-overdue return to Denver. The spotlight was on them in front of thousands, as they were opening up for one of the largest bands known to indie rock. The Cribs shined through their set as they played early hits like, “Come On, Be A No-One”, to the highlight of the show, “Be Safe”. This was a performance that set up Modest Mouse perfectly.

Mission Ballroom Was The Perfect Venue For Modest Mouse

Isaac Brock couldn’t have said it better himself that he was ecstatic to play Mission Ballroom over anywhere else in Colorado. This felt like a true Modest Mouse show, which was their first headlining show in Denver since Velorama in 2018. There’s a lot different about Mission Ballroom in comparison to a music festival, as the intimacy is at the forefront. Truly, there is not a bad seat in the entire venue, which played favor to the packed audience. All of the way from the front to the back of the venue, “Alright!” could be heard in correspondence to “We’ll all float on..”. When diving into their performance, it was clear that Modest Mouse was having fun while playing in front of thousands.

Having Fun With It and Nailing It

After twenty years of recording some songs, they sounded just as good as ever live. This was a treat for anyone who has been following the band since their debut, “This Is a Long Drive for Someone with Nothing to Think About”. Opening their set with “The World At Large”, everyone was immediately immersed as the six-piece performed. It was only the start of a catalog that stretched through all eras of Modest Mouse. Jumping back and forth, each song on the setlist transitioned perfectly while setting the dance floor on fire. Topping off an outstanding setlist, they came out for an encore, which featured their 1996 hit “Dramamine”. This performance had something in there for everyone, and the best part is that Modest Mouse had fun doing it.

Aged Like Fine Wine

It was a spectacle to see Modest Mouse and The Cribs both surpassing expectations. Aging like fine wine, both bands showed that there are plenty more years left in them. Mission Ballroom was the perfect venue to host this experience, as it was the perfect balance for both bands to utilize the amazing production to play their hits. “No, don’t you worry, we’ll all float on, alright” after this night.

This Colorado native, known to family and friends as Trevor Christensen, has been playing the piano and other various instruments since the young age of eight. His strong background in melodic music combined with technical training has allowed him to create an absolutely breathtaking signature sound.

“Show & Tell” (feat. Claire Ridgely), “Emotion Sickness” (feat. Will Anderson of Parachute), and “Where’d U Go” (with Illenium) are some of Said The Sky‘s most well-known tracks. Since his start, he’s brought his captivating live experience to venues and festivals throughout North America. Currently, Said The Sky is on tour for his most recent album, Sentiment.

The Sentiment Tour

On Friday, March 25th, Skygazers (what his fans call themselves) gathered in Trevor’s hometown of Denver, Colorado. Joining Said The Sky in Denver were Olivver The Kid, Afinity, and Midnight Kids.

This show took place at the Mission Ballroom, which is one of the newer venues in Denver. The venue has a capacity of nearly four thousand people. However, the stage can actually be moved depending on the expected attendance to slightly grow or shrink the size of the main floor. Multiple bars and restrooms are scattered throughout the venue along with two VIP balconies, a tiered seating area, a merchandise booth, and even food options.

Olivver The Kid

Olivver The Kid started off the night by singing, playing the guitar, and also using a drum pad. His logo was displayed on a small screen behind the DJ booth, while multicolored lighting was used over the stage as well. One thing that visually stood out for the duration of the night was the fact that there was no visuals screen in front of the DJ booth. This allowed attendees to see the full-body silhouette of whoever was performing.

Afinity

If you have heard of the group Pixel Terror, then you know Afinity. Just this week, Pixel Terror announced that their two members (Ahrya and Bentley) would be pursuing separate musical projects from now on. Bentley will continue under the Pixel Terror name, while Ahrya started a brand new project titled Afinity.

Afinity’s show on Friday was his debut of the new project, and what a debut it was. His electric energy and sound had everyone that was on the floor jumping and dancing. He played some remixes of songs that the crowd was familiar with, including Illenium’s “Blame Myself” (with Tori Kelly). For his set, three large screens lit up behind him and he had a full visuals display.

Midnight Kids

Midnight Kids was created by “dreamers, believers, and late night rebels“. The focus of their music centers around encouraging people to be comfortable with their stories and stay true to themselves. If you haven’t heard any music by Midnight Kids yet, “Find Our Way” (feat. klei) and “Keep It Complicated” do a great job of showcasing their sound. Early last year, the two members announced that they would be going their separate ways in regards to music. So, Kyle Girard is the sole member presently.

By the time he came on, the venue was basically full, including the tiered section in the back. By now, there were quite a bit of VIP ticket holders up on the balconies as well. Midnight Kids played a high-energy mix of original tracks along with crowd favorites including music from Space Laces, Illenium, and a remix of “Bulletproof” by La Roux.

(Hometown) Hero

While these three stellar acts were warming up the stage for Said The Sky, he was getting tattooed backstage by Denver artist Jawnton, who’s done some of Trevor’s other tattoos as well. After a twenty-minute set change, Trevor FINALLY took to the stage! His set had the largest production of the night with a massive LED wall tall enough to touch the ceiling along with the three other screens. Multi-colored light bars, fog, pyrotechnics (fireworks and fire), and cryo jets were used throughout his performance.

Said The Sky used the DJ booth and also played a few songs on a beautiful grand piano and an acoustic guitar. Day Gatsby was on the drum kit and only used one hand to play the entire night due to an injury on the other. Olivver The Kid was also a part of most of the set, singing and playing the guitar for multiple songs. During the song “Hero” (with Olivver The Kid and Dabin), Dabin even made a special appearance! Jack Newsome also made an appearance to sing their song titled “Holdin’ My Own“.

Being the Sentiment Tour, most songs that Said The Sky played were from his latest album. The crowd sang along to some of their favorites including “We Know Who We Are” (feat. Olivver The Kid) and “Go On Then, Love” (feat. The Maine). For his encore, Trevor sat down on the front of the stage and played his guitar for “Walk Me Home” (with Illenium and Chelsea Cutler), just like he did to conclude his Red Rocks set last fall.

“An Experience Through Music”

Said The Sky played a beautifully emotional and memorable set in Denver. It was easy to see that everyone in attendance was enjoying themselves. Happy tears were shed by many as the crowd danced, sang, and became fully immersed in the captivating experience that is Said The Sky. As always, his production was bigger and better than before, and we can’t wait to see what will happen next time he plays a show in his hometown.
