Slander’s Night One Of “Thrive On The Rocks” Was Exhilarating

The end of concert season draws near at Red Rocks Amphitheater, but not before hosting some of the most sought-after music artists in the world. Slander couldn’t have chosen a better time to debut their newest album, Thrive, in Colorado with two nights of “Thrive On The Rocks.” Excitement brewed as fans poured into the breathtaking venue under the gleam of a full moon. Glowing wristbands upon entry, paired with a heated lineup of talent leading up to Slander, sealed the deal for weekend vibes on a Wednesday night.

Supporting Talent

Saka

Saka kicked off as the opener for Thrive On The Rocks by slathering us with bass and eclectic beats. His energy was contagious, sending us into dancing fits under the moonlit sky. This rising star from Hong Kong is on tour across the nation, supporting artists like Slander, Mersiv, and Peekaboo. You can catch his amazing sound next at EDC Orlando on November 11th!

Saka Twitter

Leotrix

Next up was Australian DJ Leotrix. Holding nothing back, he unleashed a barrage of heavy hitters and we couldn’t get enough. His signature bass and pulse-stopping drops landed him on festival lineups like Lost Lands and Dancefestopia this year. As Thrive On The Rocks is one of many stops on his tour, it’s clear Leotrix is on a fast track to success!

Moore Kismet

California-based Moore Kismet was next to grace the stage. Prismatic music from their “Universe” album and delightful stage presence left us reeling! 17-year-old Moore Kismet shows promise in their surging popularity and already boasts an impressive musician’s resume. International festival performances, their Universe album release, and their international tour, Universe, are just a few of their feats in 2022 alone!

Kompany

Kompany wasn’t originally scheduled to perform, but he did not disappoint and took Thrive On The Rocks by storm. Remixing tracks like “Lockdown” and “Elephant March,” Kompany sent headbangers into a raging dubstep frenzy! His collaborations with producers like Excision, Subtronics, and Wooli have become staples for any dubstep enthusiast. Although Kompany is also on tour, you won’t want to miss his next Colorado appearance at Decadence!

Slander

Slander took their place on stage at last while our wristbands glowed in sync like a sea of stars. As an LED stage structure reminiscent of their iconic “eye” came to life, Slander’s set began with a heated remix of their hit song “Back To U.” The contrast of lyrical elements with hard dubstep hit home runs with us all night long. Songs from their Thrive album like, “Love is Gone (Dylan Matthew)” and “Walk on Water,” also brought emotional depth to the experience.

In a drastic change of pace, Slander dimmed the lights in the venue and began dishing out invigorating techno music. Rows of elated shufflers could be seen dancing in the stands. The music then turned toward fan favorites like GUD VIBRATIONS (I shamelessly screeched with happiness) and Potions. Thousands of people could be heard singing lyric-heavy songs like “All You Need To Know”. When the time came for Slander to leave, they charmed chanting fans with an encore and played one last song “Superhuman”.

In short, Derek Anderson and Scott Land are the American DJ duo known as Slander. Their unique integration of melodic music with heavy bass drops has created a large footprint in the EDM scene. It’s not uncommon to witness an entire venue sing along to their chart-topping songs, which carry messages of love and GUD VIBRATIONS. Hosted by some of the most prestigious music festivals in the world, Slander’s innovative music and global fanbase are a testament to their impeccable talent as a team.

Walking away with more than memories

Overall, the range of different genres at Thrive On The Rocks was incredible. It was pure joy to share these moments with up-and-coming artists and established producers. Slander’s “Thrive” debut in Colorado proved more meaningful than just a concert. Before we traveled home we were reminded to live in this happy moment together, hugging our friends and loved ones around us. “Thrive” seems to convey that, despite the pain and obstacles we may face, it’s okay to hold on to a cherished moment and celebrate it. To enjoy it. To thrive in it.

Zeds Dead Set Hearts On Fire At The 8th Annual Deadrocks!

Zeds Dead Set Hearts On Fire At The 8th Annual Deadrocks!

This past weekend on July 2nd & 3rd of 2022 was the eighth annual Deadrocks at Red Rocks Park and Amphitheater in Morrison, CO. This incredible two-night event is produced by the iconic electronic duo, Zeds Dead, and happens every July since 2014. The boys were here this past weekend to not only celebrate the return of this annual event but to showcase many up-and-coming artists.

Location, Layout, and Production

Red Rocks Park and Amphitheater is located in Morrison, CO which is only 20 minutes outside of Denver. This unique venue has been a major bucket list item for many past and present artists. Red Rocks has four spacious parking lots along with an accessibility shuttle to take patrons to row 1 for events. Once inside, you’ll be able to experience the beauty of the rocks, the views of the city, and the stunning stage production. The stage consisted of many speakers to carry the sound, large LED boards to show visuals, lots of lasers, and some projections that shined onto the rocks.

Food and Drink

Concession stands with food and drink options are located throughout the amphitheater. Food options include chicken fingers, hot dogs, nachos, popcorn, pretzels, pizza, candy, and chips. For drinks, attendees have options for draft and canned beers, wine, margaritas, Coke products, Red Bull, iced tea, coffee, hot chocolate, and water are also available. There are also many vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options available. To learn more about specialty food and drink, you can click here to go to their website.

Line up

Deadrocks had a stacked lineup with many extraordinary artists that come from a wide variety of backgrounds. The following artists are highlighted on Deadbeats, Zeds Dead’s very own record label.

Night 1: HEYZ, A Hundred Drums, DNMO, Hybrid Minds, Mersiv, and Zeds Dead

Night 2: Brux, SuperAve., Kumarion, IMANU, Blanke, and Zeds Dead

The weekend featured a mixture of EDM genres. Attendees were able to enjoy the sounds of bass, dubstep, downtime, psytrance, drum & bass, house, and surrealist club-pop. All of these artists were truly incredible to see perform live. I would highly recommend following them on socials as well as grabbing a ticket to their next show.

Zeds Dead fans got to feel a sense of euphoria during the boys’ set on both nights. The duo played so many tracks that fans have been “chasing” for years. Some of these recognizable tracks included Zeds Dead’s remix of Kiss by Jeuce, No Prayers with Omar LinX, Shut Up & Sing by Greta Svabo Bech (ZD Remix), Flickers by Son Lux (ZD Remix) and many more. Zeds Dead also showcased tracks that collabed with other fellow EDM artists like Subtronics, Peekaboo, Griz, Jauz, Blunts & Blondes, Rezz, and others.

Luckily for fans, the fun just didn’t stop there. Zeds Dead also held their Backyard Jamboree on July 4th which took place at the Civic Center Park located in Downtown Denver and played two more sets that same night for their Deadrocks Hangover show at Mission Ballroom also located in Denver.

Conclusion

Deadrocks is a very special weekend and I would 100% recommend going to anyone who is interested. This was my first Deadrocks and it definitely will not be the last time I attend this event.

Be sure to follow all of Zeds Dead socials for the latest updates and you can check out their website to check out their merch, upcoming tour dates, latest releases, and more!

Porter Robinson Brought Nurture To The Rocks

Porter Robinson Brought Nurture To The Rocks

Porter Robinson is a name that echos through the EDM scene, as he has continuously influenced the genre since debuting with Spitfire in 2010. Even Billboard acknowledged that he was gonna be a force for years to come by having him on their list of 21 people under 21 to watch. This was a prolific start to an already storied career. Porter’s last time performing at Red Rocks was under his DJ moniker Virtual Self in 2018, but this time, he brought a full-fledged tour to Red Rocks to open the season.

The Concept Of The Tour

Porter is extremely meticulous in every aspect of his tours to properly present his vision. Each artist brings something different to the table, but everything blends seamlessly. You rarely see an artist able to curate a lineup that feels like each act is on the same label. Most importantly, this tour had one goal, and that was to give Porter the confidence to break out in full sing-a-longs. This is where Porter can allude to the tour and album’s name, Nurture.

Porter Opening For Himself

There was a mysterious act double-booked for both nights, which started right at doors and played for an hour and a half. Most people have never heard of Air To Earth, and little did people know that this was actually Porter Robinson. This is an ambitious feat as it puts him collectively playing three and a half hours of music, of which two hours of it is all performed live. It’s a sight to behold whenever an artist can pull this off at the extreme altitude of Red Rocks while performing at the highest level.

The Curated Artists

We briefly discussed how Porter is meticulous with the artists that he brings along on tour, but the placement of each act was perfect. The highs from Air To Earth led right into Qrion, then Wavedash takes control of the audience with their powerful and intricate style. All of this is topped off with day-specific artists Machinedrum and Magdalena Bay. Both of these artists set the floor perfectly for Porter to give in his own words, his best performances in ten years.

Porter’s Best Performance In Ten Years

He has come out and ranked these performances above his own music festival Second Sky performances. This is unique, but it is only possible by being as calculated as possible, and continuous tweaking. Songs that were once hard to imagine being played live were instant highlights. Most notably, Wind Tempos, which went from sweet melodies to jumping rhythms. For the encore, one of the main singles off of Nurture, Get Your Wish, feels like a perfect goodbye to a world. It was the vision of, “It will serve you in due time” coming to a reality. Clearly, the peak of emotions for Porter after pouring his craft on stage.

“Thank You, I’ll Say Goodbye Now”

To conclude what was a visually and soundly outstanding performance, he finished with a sing-a-long to Goodbye To A World. Almost hinting that he will be back, and to our surprise, he announced the return of the Second Sky Music Festival in late October. A world that he can control while having more control to fully immerse everyone into his vision. The crowd was brought to tears with all of us saying goodbye, but knowing this won’t be the last journey we share. It’s the perfect ending to what has been a memorable return to Red Rocks for the first shows of the season.
