ALLEYCVT

Red Rocks Park and Amphitheatre is a world-renowned music venue located in Morrison, Colorado. This naturally occurring amphitheater sits between two breathtaking rock fins, providing beautiful views of the city of Denver to just over 9,500 at the most.

On Friday, May 8th, dubstep queen ALLEYCVT hosted SUPERSONIC ROCKS at the venue. Unsurprisingly, this was a sold-out show! Tazu (real name Julian Paez), COSTA, TYNAN (real name Kevin Hickey), and Habstrakt (real name Adam Jouneau) were also on the stacked lineup.

Tazu and COSTA Kick Things Off

Bass heads had gathered at the venue long before doors opened, patiently waiting to secure their spots. By the time Paez came on, the venue was already mostly full. Paez has been touring with ALLEYCVT, and this was his first time setting foot in Red Rocks. He did a great job of igniting the energy with heavy drops and an excellent stage presence.

Up next was COSTA. The venue was absolutely packed at this point, with people who didn’t arrive early enough to secure a seat standing on the planters outside the stairs. A bit of light rain passed through as COSTA played dubstep remixes of 2000s tracks, including “Just Dance” by Lady Gaga with Colby O’Donis, “Like A G6” by Far East Movement with The Cataracs and DEV, and “Slow Down” by Selena Gomez. For the family photo at the end of his set, he held up his graduation cap — because he’s graduating from the University of Maryland this year!

“And His Name is… TYNAN!”

In addition to a triangular LED screen, horizontal light bars across the top and bottom of the stage, strobes, and multi-colored lights, Hickey also began to blast the crowd with lasers. Throughout his set, he played a ton of new collabs! These included new tracks with YOOKiE, Adventure Club, and Sullivan King. He also played a brand new remix of “Don’t You Worry Child” by Swedish House Mafia featuring John Martin.

Everyone in the crowd brought so much energy, which was especially important for Hickey’s set. He explained that a few weeks ago, he got really sick, and he was still trying to recover. “I usually like going really hard on stage, but I can’t without feeling really dizzy, so I’m going to need you all to go extra hard for me because I can’t,” he said. And wow, did Red Rocks deliver.

Habstrakt Up Next

Jouneau opened his set with a remix of his own track, “Chicken Soup” with Skrillex. He played more of a hardstyle, or speed house/bass house set, which was honestly a refreshing switch-up from all of the other dubstep artists on the lineup.

It began to lightly rain again as Jouneau rinsed a brand new collab with Skrillex. He also played a remix of “dashstar*” by Knock2 and a remix of “Perfect (Exceeder)” by Mason and Princess Superstar. For the entire duration of his set, his energy and big movements behind the decks were really fun to watch.

ALLEYCVT Took Red Rocks to the “STRATOSPHERE”

ALLEYCVT’s intro was absolutely insane. Within minutes of her taking the stage, fireworks, pyro, cryo, and an insane array of lasers were unleashed!

She played a new release with Crankdat early in the set, along with a remix of Eminem’s “Without Me.” On the LED screen behind her, when trippy, abstract visuals weren’t playing, it displayed live footage of the crowd singing along and dancing. Sometimes, it would be a live video of ALLEYCVT singing along to her lyrics as well.

Even more light bars and strobes were used as part of her production for her set. The bars surrounded the triangular LED wall, with multiple on each side of the screen. Images also lit up both of the rock fins of the venue. On one, the text “SUPERSONIC ROCKS” was shown. On the other was the Planet Supersonic logo.

For her entire hour-and-a-half set, ALLEYCVT kept the vibes up and the crowd dancing and headbanging. She played plenty of her classics, including “BELIEVE” with LEVEL UP, “STRANGERS“, and “STRATOSPHERE.”

During the latter, she said, “I wrote this song about my grandma. She’s not here anymore, but I know she’s looking down on me, so this shit goes out to anybody who’s lost someone. I love you, and they’re here with us tonight right now.”

It wouldn’t be an ALLEYCVT set without her signature SpongeBob moment. Clips of Bikini Bottom took over the LED screen as she played a crazy ID. She also dropped an unreleased GRiZ track and a VIP edit of “RELIGION” that she made the previous night. COSTA even came back out as a special guest to play their recent collab. To close out her set, she played a remix of “When I R.I.P.” by Labrinth that she made a few days prior.

An Iconic Evening

The EDM community showed up and showed out for the first-ever SUPERSONIC ROCKS. Fans traveled from across the country to witness ALLEYCVT and friends take over the legendary venue. At the end of her set, she shared that this was an absolute dream come true.

In Denver, ALLEYCVT has sold out multiple venues, including The Ogden Theatre, Mission Ballroom, and now Red Rocks. What’s next? Hopefully, she’ll bring back SUPERSONIC ROCKS next year! Check out the ALLEYCVT website for her upcoming tour dates to see if you can catch her at a festival near you this summer.
