Ibiza Eclipse

An Ibiza sunset is certainly a sight to behold. Expansive and awe inspiring, each one bathes the White Isle in a red-orange light that seems to complement the rich culture that’s taken hold across its countless beaches. Only one thing could make it more memorable: a solar eclipse.

Come Wednesday, August 12th, both phenomena will occur at the same time on a path of totality that includes Ibiza. From 8:26-8:32 CEST, the moon will fully obscure the sun from view as it dips beneath the Balearic Sea. Such an event only happens once a century or so, with the next one visible from the White Isle not expected until 2135.

As you might expect, a number of clubs and promoters are planning events to coincide with the sunset eclipse. For example, DJ Harvey is hosting a one-time installment of his Mercury Rising residency at Pikes Ibiza called Phoenix Rising, which also celebrates ten years of the celebrated series.

“It’s a full solar eclipse with totality lasting over two minutes as the sun sets,” DJ Harvey wrote on Instagram. “I’ll be playing an extended set to soundtrack it before moving the party inside… With all the elements at play with us it’s going to be truly epic!”

Meanwhile, Cova Santa is hosting the Woomoon 10 Year Anniversary | Eclipse Special, featuring DJ sets by Sven Väth, Tanika, André Hommen, and Valentín Huedo. And over at S’Arsenal Beach, Franky Rizardo, Miguelle & Tons, Adrian, and Alex O. are set to play at Feels Like Eclipse Festival. Some of the best spots to watch the eclipse outside of nightclubs are Sa Figuera Borda, Es Vedrà, Cala Comte, Cala d’Hort, and San Antonio Bay, according to The Ibiza Times.

At this point, dance parties and total solar eclipses are a well-known recipe for unforgettable memories. The minds behind central California’s Symbiosis Gathering have chased eclipses for years, organizing festivals like Oregon Eclipse, Patagonia Eclipse, Texas Eclipse, and the upcoming Iceland Eclipse.

Don’t sleep on these parties if you’re lucky enough to be in Ibiza on Wednesday, October 12th. Otherwise, you’ll have to wait a whole century to catch the next one!
