The one they call Zen Selekta is coming to Denver for a double-header weekend. On Friday November 15th and Saturday the 16th, the DJ and producer will take over Meow Wolf Denver. This two-day event can only be described as an otherworldly experience.
Born Nicole Garcia Barton, Zen Selekta hails from Atlanta, Georgia. Her Spanish heritage plays a large role in her music, which features global sounds and delicate yet moody melodies. Hence, her sound has an intensity that’s cultivated by her creativity and diverse interests.
A New Show
This Denver appearance marks a special achievement. This two-night endeavor will feature custom visuals and the first time Barton will have an immersive stage show. And it allows her to split each night into different versions of herself.
Night 1, aptly named Zen, features her primitive side, featuring more worldly music. It’s hypnotic and laced with tribal beats. Night 2, named Selekta, is all about the music, and the bass as well. Untamed, Barton unleashes her wild side in the form of hard-thumping, bass-laden bangers. The duality of the nights is peak Zen Selekta and will give you a better insight into who she is as an artist.
For those unfamiliar, Meow Wolf is a choose-you-own art experience. An artistic venture geared towards awakening your creativity, it uses sensory engagement for an immersive experience.
Meow Wolf Denver features 80 rooms spread across four floors full of multimedia installations. Hosted at Convergence Station, this ambitious exhibition is Meow Wolf’s largest. The Perplexiplex is its music venue with a 500-person capacity. Serving as an interactive forest, The Perplexiplex went from a live performance venue to an interactive light show.
Supporting Friends
This two-night event is too large for Barton to take on all by herself. Helping her curate the soundtrack for Friday are Contra, LitaLotus, and Athena. On Saturday, Seth David, Wonkywilla, and Zentik will be your other selektas for the night. Altogether, they promise a weekend filled with the best in global sounds and banging bass.
With this being Zen Selekta’s first time featuring custom visuals and an immersive stage show, you don’t want to miss getting tickets. In the end, this will be an epic musical journey when you catch Zen Selekta at Meow Wolf Denver this November 15th and 16th.
