The festival began in 1995 and has been growing ever since. The founder of Airbeat One, Tom Oehler, was only 20 years old when he started putting on parties while studying telecommunications at University of Aachen. 3) Hurricane Festival and Southside Festival

Held annually in June in Scheeßel, Germany, Hurricane Festival attracts roughly 60,000 attendees each year. Since its debut year in 1999, this four-day event features various genres of music, most commonly rock and electronic music. To clarify, this festival is one of the oldest in Europe. Southside Festival was created as a spinoff from Hurricane Festival; it occurs at almost exactly the same time (one week before) and is held in Hildesheim.

The Melt! Festival takes place in Ferropolis, a city that was built around an iron ore mine. The festival features a wide variety of electronic music and art installations.
