Excitement is brewing around what may be one of the most unique album releases in dance music’s storied history. RL Grime (real name Henry Steinway) is putting out a triple album under the umbrella name of PLAY. Inside PLAY will be three separate albums — GRID, APEX and RUSH — totaling 21 tracks.

A Sneak Peek at RL Grime’s Forthcoming LP

Earlier this month, RL Grime dropped an insane album preview. The video built immense hype for not only the project itself, but its attention to detail, retro aesthetic, and unique delivery. PLAY is available on RL Grime’s store to be distributed as microSD cards. The preview video depicts a building tension in a ’90s/Y2K timeframe. To fit the era, the characters in the two-minute teaser switch tracks solely by swapping these album-specific microSDs.

RL Grime’s Album Teaser

The tracks inside the wildly creative video showcase RL Grime’s incredible diversity of sound. The soaring 128 BPM tunes appear to come from the RUSH album, which adds a new twist to the trap legend’s typical fare. The GRID section teases the vibrant breakbeat and vocal combos that RL Grime showed off on his album Nova. And finally, APEX features footage of massive crowds that match the energy of its huge trap anthems. The old school-sounding synth stabs in this section are bound to be a highlight of the upcoming live show. Oh, did I not mention that part?

PLAY™live

With the release of PLAY comes PLAY™live, a 13-stop tour featuring support from JAWNS and 33 Below. With these immensely talented opening acts, RL is bringing pure energy from top to bottom of this show. 33 Below has emerged from New Zealand with a plethora of remixes and upbeat originals in the past three years. The drum and bass, garage and breakbeat influence on his tracks keep the energy high. Your body will not be able to help but bounce to his drum patterns!

JAWNS is a mask-donning member of Sable Valley, RL Grime’s own imprint. His anthemic rave sounds and heavy hitting trap beats have carved his path in the music industry. With additional releases on Deadbeats and Mau5trap, JAWNS’ creative range is wide but will always keep the bass rattling. If you caught his set at the Zeds Dead Jamboree this summer, you know how special the energy will be in Mission Ballroom when RL Grime’s tour comes to Denver.

A Halloween Treat

Few artists can say they are associated with and known for a holiday. I’d keep the list to Mariah Carey and Trans-Siberian Orchestra with Christmas — and, of course, RL Grime with Halloween. Per tradition, fans are expecting the release of Halloween XII this fall, another edition of RL Grime’s annual mixtape.

Denver has been blessed with a special treat! The PLAY™live Tour will be stopping in town on Halloween night. On October 31st, the PLAY™live Tour will take place at Mission Ballroom. For the previous two years, RL has held special events to celebrate the release of his highly anticipated Halloween mix in Los Angeles. This year, however, Denver struck gold by landing this specific tour night. So don’t miss out on the festivities. Choose your costume and secure your ticket to RL Grime’s Halloween tour stop!
