Ending their first headlining tour in well over a decade, Mudvayne wrapped up The Psychotherapy Sessions Tour at the recently revamped Fiddler’s Green Amphitheatre on August 26th. Supporting acts spanned the metal genre and included Butcher Babies, Nonpoint, Coal Chamber, and GWAR. This one-of-a-kind lineup brought a freight train of energy. Band members donned masks, body paint and outrageous costumes to create an unforgettable experience.

The Lineup
The excitement of the nu metal resurgence filled the venue as Coal Chamber returned to the stage after years of touring hiatus. Every band featured a unique presence alongside one of the most anticipated comebacks in metal music. Butcher Babies dominated the stage with two powerhouse female vocalists. Both were as beautiful as they were aggressive.
GWAR, on the other hand, is known for their over-the-top dark theatrics. They came through with all the fake blood one could want – drowning the front row. Nonpoint brought their own class of insanity with enough long-haired headbanging and heavy vocals to get any pit moving. Butcher Babies joined them onstage momentarily for an onslaught of an epic performance.

The Message Behind the Music
Overall, the title of The Psychotherapy Sessions Tour was extremely befitting. Although people often categorize metal music as aggressive or violent (which it is), Mudvayne recognized the community that metal fosters. With too many outsiders looking in, there is a misconception about the purpose of heavy music. Seeing people covered in ink, blood, and piercings screaming defiant lyrics can be off-putting. People may see this crowd as just a bunch of misfits in band tees who are up to no good.
However, Mudvayne frontman Chad Gray really hit home with his message that people come to heavy shows with broken hearts and homes. The metal community is comprised of emotional and creative individuals who use music as a therapy and an outlet. Music saves lives, and heavy metal is no different.
The Psychotherapy Sessions Tour may have wrapped up at Fiddler’s Green Amphitheater but Mudvayne, Coal Chamber, Nonpoint, GWAR and Butcher Babies are all on their own separate tours right now. If you have the chance to join in the nu metal resurgence, then take your opportunity to see any of these bands live. They all offer an incredible one-of-a-kind experience!
