On Thursday, October 26th, the master of outrageous improvisation on top of funky beats, Marc Rebillet, returns to Morrison, Colorado for a one-of-a-kind night at the legendary Red Rocks Amphitheatre.
Rebillet is one part funk, one part hip-hop, a little bit of house, a lot of energy, and the definition of spontaneous when he’s onstage or in front of the camera. Many of us became infatuated with him during the quarantine when live streams were our only connection to each other and the outside world, and he now has over two million YouTube subscribers and counting.
Marc jumps off the screen like a cartoon character and commands attention. His musical ability, high energy, and love for improvisation are infectious, and his willingness to entertain every person in the crowd has made him a worldwide phenomenon. What makes him so special is that you never know what he’s gonna do, yet he’ll always give you something to remember. It’s a balance.
There can be no denying the need for artists like Marc Rebillet, whose focus is more on expression than on any result, yet somehow, it always works. He lives in the moment when he’s onstage and strives to include everyone. Whether playing in his bedroom, on the side of the road, or even in front of a giant crowd, the devotion to the music is always there. You can’t help but want to support somebody so committed to that concept.
It reminds me so much of when I learned about Oscar Wilde and his belief in art for art’s sake. We put so much value in the sale and consumption of art that we forget the nature of it. We make art to express ourselves, to remind ourselves we are alive, and most of all, for the sake of it. We make art because we can and because we want to. Marc wants to make this music for us.
With Marc, there’s also a sense of a comedic performance as well, where even if you laugh, dance, or nod along, a reaction is all that will ever matter. When you combine that with a long history of training and education in music since he was a child, you realize what he does is deliberate.
Marc will send you home entertained and happy. Just don’t be surprised if he ends up in his underwear.
On October 26th, the one and only Marc Rebillet will return to the epic Red Rocks Amphitheatre, and I can’t recommend it enough. He’s unique, outrageous, and most of all, he’s true. I suppose that’s all any of us can be these days.
