The 2020 Video Music Awards this year managed to take place even amidst the widespread pandemic of Covid-19. This made it the first major event to be held indoors in New York since the start of the epidemic. With special rules in effect to help minimize the spread of the virus, safety during this event was ensured by having little to no audience present during the time of the ceremony. They also took pride in virtualizing key components of the event when possible, bringing one of music’s biggest nights of the year to the couches of viewers across the globe. The awards were held on August 30th, 2020, primarily in New York. However some of the scene was pre-recorded in Los Angeles on a green screen and simulated to give some of the contenders the appearance that they were actually in New York.

Colson Baker, AKA Machine Gun Kelly, an actor, songwriter, singer and rapper from Cleveland Ohio attended the 2020 Video Music Awards hosted by MTV with a fresh new look. After recruiting friends Travis Barker and Blackbear, MGK quickly steals the scene with an incredible rooftop performance. MGK performed two songs from his upcoming album “Tickets To My Downfall”. This included “my ex’s best friend” performed on the rooftop and then “Bloody Valentine” in a room with dimly lit lighting for an extra eye catching effect. This paired quite well with the pop-rock theme that was portrayed.

But let us go back for a second and talk about that stunning jumpsuit Kelly surprised us all with. Pinker than Peppa Pig from head to toe, the attire composed of a sleeveless pink turtleneck with matching highlighter pink pants and an overthrow coat. There’s more. To seal the deal he wore a dazzling white pearl necklace, with pink polka-dotted shoes. With how well this man can pull off just about any outfit, it’s surprising that more fashion companies are not just throwing themselves at him. The mastermind designer of this magnificent outfit is none other than Kris Van Assche. Who designed the ensemble as a part of the Berluti’s winter 2020 collection

Some of the other nominees go on to include a few of the biggest stars in todays music. Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande went on to perform their smashing Collab “Rain on Me“. With no surprise at all, this caused fans from all over the world to go berserk with excitement. Ariana and Lady Gaga lead the night through the nominations that day accumulating nine awards each! A few other contenders worth noting are Doja Cat, Miley Cyrus and even the Black Eyed Peas!

The odds were against the VMA this year with social distancing guidelines making things a bit tricky to operate on a professional level. Yet still the VMA remained vigilant and pressed on while adhering to the strict rules in place. Forced to abandon the original plans for the ceremony, a stitched-together series of live and pre-taped performances was a great decision yielding a smashing success. Additionally with the patience and well organized staff in place, Sunday’s festivities were wild and weird while ultimately entertaining down to the core! What will be in store for 2021’s Video Music Awards? We will just have to keep on jamming out until the next one. Hopefully, we won’t need to wear a mask next time around.
