Don’t let the name trip you up! Experimental artist and producer Lil Darkie is coming to Denver this November for Lil Darkie and the Collapse of Modern Society. Headlining the iconic Fillmore Auditorium, he brings his angsty blend of music and live performance to the masses. The show falls on Black Friday, November 24th, which is just apropos for someone whose persona is the above self-drawn cartoon caricature. And because, well, he’s Lil Darkie.

Born Joshua Hamilton, Lil Darkie rose from the ashes of his former rap personality, Brahman. Representing his more lyrical side, Brahman set the stage for his next incarnation to emerge. Keen on using animation when representing his alter-egos, Brahman was a blue-colored cartoon while Lil Darkie is, of course, Black.

Controversy follows Lil Darkie’s music, what with his incendiary lyrics. Couple that with a contentious name and cartoon imagery, and it’s no mystery why he’s got folks up in arms.

Seeming to operate on the premise that any press is good press, Lil Darkie’s got this down pat. People are talking about the man who founded the Spider Gang Collective. They’re talking about the guy who uses cartoon avatars. They talk about his music, which features thought-provoking yet inflammatory lyrics.

Lil Darkie burst onto the scene in 2018. In just five short years, his music has gained a lot of attention. Traction on TikTok and Spotify allows his reach to extend worldwide. It comes as no surprise that he’s achieved 1 billion streams on Spotify. In celebration, he and frequent collaborator Wendigo released a new track called “The World is Ending.” Lil Darkie is a man who always gives the audience what they want.

So where should an artist such as Lil Darkie perform? The legendary Fillmore Auditorium, of course. Nestled in Denver’s Capitol Hill neighborhood, the Fillmore possesses a rich musical history. With a who’s who of performing acts, the Fillmore went through multiple renovations to become the auditorium we know today. It now boasts state-of-the-art equipment and holds the title for having the biggest indoor general entrance seating in all of Denver. It’s no wonder that the Fillmore Denver ranks as one of the top music venues in America.

If you’ve never been to the Fillmore in Denver, I’d say a Lil Darkie show would be the perfect time to go. If you’ve never seen one of his performances, I’d venture a guess that this one would be the ideal one to see. He’s pretty popular, as is evident from his Spotify streams, so this show could sell out. Get your tickets now — you definitely don’t want to miss the Collapse of Modern Society.
