Soundscape Mixology
Lab Group “works from a common point of creative expedition in search of a defined serenity block,” according to their website. In less scientific terms, they bring together musicians from across genres to create dope beats and jams. Formed by renowned producers Potions (real name Tom Owens), Supertask (real name Kyle Bishoff), and the late CharlestheFirst, Lab Group has continued to evolve.
After the untimely passing of a founding member, many groups may never recover, but the lab wasn’t ready to close. Bringing in additional collaborators tiedye ky and Player Dave, they’ve recently released two singles. They’ve also been recording new materials for an upcoming LP titled Lab Group 2.

Inquiry, Exploration, and Discovery
Those three words adorn the announcement poster for Lab Group’s 2024 Mission Ballroom show. It also describes the mindset around which Owens and Bishoff’s music concept revolves. Recent performances have demonstrated the cooperative spirit of production. A recent announcement for the show informed fans that they’ll see all surviving core members and artists who collaborated on the new album. If you caught night one of Rezz Rocks in Morrison, you witnessed their mind-melting set after sundown.
Wager and Win Big
Along with what will be an epic performance by Lab Group, the supporting lineup is phenomenal! Laying down atmospheric melodies before the headliner will be Clams Casino (real name Michael Thomas Volpe) and Jacques Greene (real name Philippe Aubin-Dionne). Drawing from wide-ranging influences, Volpe is best known for writing, producing, and remixing hip-hop beats for industry giants like A$AP Rocky, The Weeknd, and Lana Del Rey. Aubin-Dionne has turned out tracks for vocalists like Katy B and Tinashe, in addition to work releasing his music and others as co-owner of Vase Records. He has also remixed megastars Radiohead and Ciara.
If you caught Potions and Player Dave’s co-headlining show at The Mishawaka in May, you know there’s something special on tap.
