EDM artists pose on golden thrones

Red Rocks Amphitheatre is getting things cooking this spring with some hot EDM shows. One of the most noteworthy announcements came recently with a monumental mash-up. The MELLODEATH Tour is coming to Colorado, co-headlined by artists Marshmello and SVDDEN DEATH.

Marshmello blends pop and hip-hop with electronic music, and he is one of the most successful producers of the last decade. Equally notorious on the festival scene, SVDDEN DEATH annihilates audiences with heavy dubstep and riddim jams. His 2023 Red Rocks Valley of Darkness II performance was an audiovisual spectacle. The MELLODEATH tour will kick off on April 4th at the legendary venue in Morrison.

A Gathering of Titans

The upcoming tour may come as a surprise to many, but there have been hints. In 2019, SVDDEN DEATH (real name Danny Howland), released a joint single with Marshmello titled “Sell Out.” The collaboration came out on Joytime Collective, the label belonging to Marshmello (real name is Christopher Comstock). It reached number 36 on the Billboard U.S. Dance charts and spawned a fruitful partnership.

Comstock is no stranger to successful musical alliances. Prior endeavors like “Silence” with Khalid, “Wolves” with Selena Gomez, and “Happier” with Bastille have earned him huge commercial success. Comstock recently posted a super collab of sorts with some familiar faces. Kansas City Chiefs stars Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes joined him behind the decks at XS Las Vegas after the duo won the big game.

In 2023, the pair joined forces on stage at EDC Las Vegas and performed as MELLODEATH for the first time. The epic B2B set featured punishing bass builds and dubstep drops blended with smooth, melodic mixes. The set merged the artists’ eclectic styles into a mind-bending marriage of musical madness that blew the crowd away. The show even featured a massive wall of death and mosh pit during heavier tracks — Marshmello fans, take notice! The tandem also treated attendees to a neck-snapping version of “Sell Out.”

More recently, Howland and Comstock joined Excision on stage for a unique performance. At the Tacoma Dome in Washington, during Excision’s Thunderdome takeover series, all three appeared together on stage.

It was during an Excision B2B SVDDEN DEATH set that Marshmello surprised the crowd. The trio played originals and remixes before debuting a new collaboration that they produced together. Maybe we’ll get a bonus MELLODEATHCISION performance at Red Rocks! We can dream, right?!
