2020 is finally here!

The turn of the decade is something to be celebrated and what better way to ring in the New Year than with a ton of live music. Rightly so, one might think that there would be a shortage of festivals with the winter engulfing most of the Northern Hemisphere; but that won’t stop us! There are plenty of opportunities for sunny getaways and next-level parties. Heads up, many of these shows require a bit more planning than most, so scramble the fighters or consider them for your travel plans next year.

Here are our top ten picks for festivals in the month of January:

#1 Falls Music Festival, December 28 – January 5, Byron Bay/Freemantle, Australia

To begin, our first adventure lands us on the beautiful coasts of Australia. The Falls Music Festival is a multi-part celebration that spans over a week. The party starts on December 28 and goes all the way through to January 5! To be sure, you’ll have lots of options to explore and even more ways to party. Likewise, the line up covers a multitude of genres with artists including Of Monster And Men, Banks, Disclosure, Wolfmother, Halsey, Vampire Weekend, and Tash Sultana.

#2 Jam Cruise, January 7 – 12, Multiple Locations

Next, Jam Cruise 18 is ready to set sail! This five-night sea shanty is packed with all our favorite jam bands. The cruise makes stops in Florida, the Bahamas, and Mexico. In addition, the Jam Cruise team is putting together tons of activities for all of its party people. These activities will include Color Wars, a Texas Hold Em’ tournament, bingo, a costume contest, and plenty more. Plus, the ship is glorious and has lots of amenities like spas, casinos, world class chefs slinging food, and luxurious cabins. With this in mind, the lineup is just as lavish. Set to play the show are Moe. Too Many Zooz, Maddy O’Neal, Lotus, Dumpstaphunk, Les Claypool’s Bastard Jazz, Pigeons Playing Ping Pong, Lettuce, and Galactic.

#3 4xFar, January 18 – 19, Coachella Valley, California

In addition, 4xFar is out to capture the true mountain lover’s ethos. Celebrating the release of its new vehicle, Land Rover is sponsoring a super cool looking festival. To illustrate, the show boasts numerous outdoor activities ranging from axe throwing, 4×4 driving courses, mountain biking, climbing and bouldering, plus speakers and experts hosting workshops. Likewise, promotions from the best in outdoor tech, gear, and culinary art. The live music for the weekend includes Anderson .Paak & The Free Nationals, Young The Giant, Kurt Vile & The Violators, an unannounced special guest, and Sofi Tukker.

#4 Basscon: Wasteland, January 10 – 11, Los Angeles, California

After that is Wasteland presented by Basscon. This mini festival will run two nights in the middle of the night. There’s not a lot advertised for this show so we encourage you to get a feel and check it out for yourselves! The lineup lists big name Hardstyle and Hard Dance acts: Wasted Penguinz, Soren, a b2b from Darksiderz and Pulsatorz, and Brennan Heart.

#5 Beyond The Valley, December 28 – January 1, Lardner, Victoria, Australia

Next, a huge NYE party. So technically the festival starts in December but it was too cool not to put on this list. The weather is warm in Australia this time of year making it the perfect place to get some quality camping in. This festival has become a staple for the local scene since 2014. In fact, this year’s show is sold out, so put it on your calendar for next season! BTV has spared no effort to throw an insane party by making it car-camping friendly and including everything you could need while roughing it. Similarly, The Friendship is a spectacle! Hop aboard this luxurious Royal Caribbean cruise liner and settle in for a few days. This is the perfect way to catch a multi-genre lineup away from the stress of the world. Ordinarily, one would associate cruises with a kicked back attitude and lots of relaxation but that is not the case here! Ticket packages are inclusive and include two nights offshore in the Bahamas for some exploring and beach parties. Likewise, the show sponsors multiple themed nights, parties, and even a special DJ hotline to come party in your room! The lineup is huge and lists artists: Boys Noize, Jack Beats, J.Phlip, Troyboi, Eprom, Space Jesus, Lucii, Bob Moses, AC Slater, Billy Kenny, and Charlesthefirst

#9 Unify Gathering, January 9 – 12, Victoria, Australia

Of equal importance is Unify Gathering. This Metal and Hardcore festival achieves next-level vibes. Kick back and enjoy four nights of heavy music and campsite shenanigans with other Metal kids. Likewise, they’ve tailored their lineup well and have included varying genres within Metal and Hardcore. For example, the lineup spotlights Knocked Loose, Stray From The Path, Silverstein, The Ghost Inside, Architects, Northlane and Polaris.

#10 Holy Ship! Wrecked: January 22 – 26, Punta Cana, Dominican Republic

Lastly, Holy Ship! does it again. However, this time around they’ve let the ship make port and have brought the party to the beach. This all-inclusive resort party will last four days and promotes TONS of goodies. For example, an open bar and buffets, 12 different pools, spas, offsite adventures, and 24-hour room service.
