Kevin Gates Brings the Fire to the Mission Ballroom
The Denver Rap scene is alive and well. Not only is the local scene thriving but regional and national acts are constantly flocking towards the burgeoning Hip-Hop establishment. This past Sunday was no different, when Hip-Hop kingpin, Kevin Gates, rolled through Denver’s Mission Ballroom and gave fans one last weekend party.
Setting the Scene
Supporting his new album, I’m Him, Kevin Gates brought with him a stunning live production and support from fellow artists. The sold out show almost immediately filled the ballroom floors after the venue doors opened, as anticipation among fans was at an all-time high. Pre-show conversations filled the air with speculation of what the rapper would play or what he would be wearing. As a warm up, the crowd was treated with a healthy dose of Hip-Hop hits, new and old, as spun by BWA Ron. Rising artists Rod Wave and OG Boobie Black also took the stage for brief but powerful sets.
The Spectacle that is Kevin Gates
By 10:30PM, the energy in the ballroom could be felt in the air, and when Kevin Gates took the stage, an uproar arose from the crowd. Wasting no time, Gates immediately dove into fan-favorites such as “Really Really” and “Facts,” delivering hit after hit. Known for his bouncy rhythms and catchy vocal hooks, Gates put on a musical spectacle for the crowd matched only by the intensity and beauty of his production and light show. As the show went on, Gates took the opportunity to share personal stories of his, often connecting to the lyrical content in his music. This offered fans more depth from the performance, making the overall experience more than just a live music gathering. If there was any doubt of Kevin Gates’ musical prowess, that can be laid to rest now.
A Bit of History
Kevin Gates is no stranger to the game. Nearly a decade into his career, Gates has released two full length albums, three EPs, and numerous mix-tapes and singles.
