GZA is taking over The Ogden for a night full of smooth grooves. Joining him is his live backing band, The Phunky Nomads, as well as special guests Kota The Friend and DJ Russell Peters. Together, this lineup will make Thursday, April 18th, the new Friday.

The Methodical Genius

GZA (born Gary E Grice) is a founding member of the hip-hop collective the Wu-Tang Clan. A a rapper and songwriter known for his deliberate flow, he’s the oldest Wu member and the first to receive a record deal. His solo career spans three decades, and his philosophizing is a fan favorite.

Known as the spiritual adviser, Grice is a very philosophical rapper with lyrical brilliance. Also called the Genius, he is erudite to say the leasr. His juxtaposition between science and music is just *chef’s kiss*. Equally important is his cool and precise delivery.

The Phunkiest Nomads

His live band The Phunky Nomads accompanying him will make this a night unlike any other. Ramsey Jones, the brother of the late Ol’ Dirty Bastard, is on drums. Entrified McCloud is on keys and Djibril Toure is on bass. Finally, there’s Shayshahn “PhearNone” MacPherson as lyricist, keyboardist and violinist.

Kota the Friend (real name Avery Marcel Joshua Jones) is a rapper, singer, songwriter, and record producer born and raised in Brooklyn. A true independent artist, Jones turned down record deals to begin his own label FLTBYS. It has taken off thanks to his DIY attitude.

He’s got a real hip-hop-meets-East-Coast-trap style that definitely works for him. His evocative lyrics and rich instrumentals create a sound truly his own. As such, he has over 700 million streams and 1.7 million monthly listeners on Spotify. All his albums are also critically acclaimed. Not bad for an independent artist, right?.

These guys are all set to rock The Ogden Theatre. Located in the Capitol Hill district of Denver, The Ogden is a former movie theater-turned music venue. Listed in the National Register of Historic Places, it’s truly steeped in history. The Ogden features two bars, a tiered main level, and a flexible layout. It can comfortably accommodate 1,600 patrons and has state-of-the-art sound and lighting, all of which is ideal for these performers.

This night is full of epic talent, and you’d be remiss not to buy tickets right away. A show featuring GZA and The Phunky Nomads, Kota the Friend, and DJ Russell Peters, all at The Ogden? Sign me up! Purchase tickets right now for this show on Thursday, April 18th.
