Day One may well be the most imitated dance party in Denver. But it’s more than just a multiple-room New Year’s Day event. You need a little nightlife magic to keep this same energy for 25 years, and Day One’s organizers have proven time and time again that they possess the endurance to outlast the competition.
Day One: Undisputed is an ode to that very fighting spirit. As always, it will kick off early as hell on New Year’s Day. This time, though, there’s a major upgrade: Day One will take place at none other than Temple Denver, the biggest nightclub in Colorado.
Three of Temple’s rooms will be transformed into epic arenas of excess: The Loft, LvL, and Mirus Gallery. You can expect some of the city’s best locals from across the house, techno, and drum and bass spectrum. Among the headliners are local legends like Brian Ess, T-Rav, L.E.F. and Anaïs along with secret guest headliners announced on the day of the event.

Toward the end of the year 1999, you’d be hard-pressed to find a promoter who wanted to throw a New Year’s party. Y2K was a looming concern for many business owners. Nobody wanted to chance it on a gathering that might go up in smoke thanks to widespread computer failure.
That is, except for one: Chris Irvin of Outta’ Our Heads — so named because someone remarked that they must be outta’ their heads to go up against Denver rave juggernauts of the era like Together Productions and Roofless Entertainment. Chris gave just few enough fucks to try his hand at promoting a Y2K day party. With the help of local figureheads Thomas Heath and Kenton Schawe aka Nutmeg, he made January 1st, 2000 a day to remember, and Day One would triumphantly return year after year.
While these days, the gathering is organized by Kenton and Denver nightlife entrepreneur Preston Douglas, its plucky underdog spirit hasn’t gone away. Day One still goes against the grain, flying in the face of industry norms and market trends. A rude awakening lies in store for anyone who tries to dethrone the best party of the year, every year — and January 1st is as good a time as any to celebrate its long and illustrious run.
