Eagle Block Party Returns After 2 Years!

It’s no secret that Eagle, CO is a great place to be, but with a weekend full of music & fun, it became the best place to be!

It really feels like summer is here after this weekend! And… we all know how much we cherish summer in the high country.

Kicking Off The Weekend

Eagle Block Party sure knows how to kick off the season with tasty food, amazing bluegrass, jam bands and not to mention an endless selection of beer and drinks to keep you refreshed during the first few 80 degree days of the year up here in the mountains.

With three stages and plenty of dancing room, Eagle kicked off Friday with Colorado’s longtime visitors Keller & The Keels, followed by a more mellow but equally entertaining performance on the Boneyard Stage by the Common Kings – an American, Hawaiian and Samoan reggae band.

Friday Highlights

Watching the sun set during one of the most epic band mashups that some of us may have ever seen was a dream. Rumor has it that The Heavy Breathers have never been seen on stage together until now. A band consisting of members from Widespread Panic- JoJo Herman & Duane Trucks, Lettuce- Ryan Zoidis & Eric Benny Bloom, Dumpstaphunk- Ian Neville and lastly The Meters- George Porter Jr. As you can expect from a group of such talented musicians, they graced us with a mix of everything but stayed true to their roots with funk and jam tunes. With seamless song transitions and a rockin’ Ride Me High, I’d say you definitely need to add The Heavy Breathers to your “must-see” list.

We danced the evening into a highly anticipated performance by Thievery Corporation. As usual, they did not disappoint and seriously brought their best in vocalists and sound & light production. They featured a crowd favorite, “Letter to the Editor” with Racquel Jones on the vocals – untouchable!

Saturday Highlights

Saturday, the drinks were flowing as soon as the gates opened at one thirty. Eric Krasno & The Assembly were the first to start us off with an amazing evening. Colorado was seriously in bluegrass heaven between Leftover Salmon followed by Sam Bush who both never fail at getting the crowd dancing in circles.

Ripe changed up the sounds with heavy funk and what sometimes sounded like reggae tunes, but hey, it seemed like everyone and even the kiddos were loving it. To close out the night, the ever anticipated Railroad Earth seemed to bring such a high energy and it felt like even more people showed up for a few hours just to see them, which truly says how special they are to the bluegrass world.

Sunday Bloodies and Bluegrass

Sundays bloodies and bluegrass event which included live music by Leftover Salmon was definitely curated for the locals who simply did not get enough bluegrass music and are truly committed to the block party! As they say, never miss a Sunday show right? Especially when there is free breakfast and bloody mary’s included!
