Planet of the Drums (Dieselboy, AK1200, DJ Dara, and MC Messinian) turned Cervantes’ up a few notches Friday, returning after almost a decade to remind Denver that DnB is still thriving.

Planet of the Drums was first introduced to the world in 2000 when three Drum and Bass DJ’s joined forces, all fronted by the lyrical legend MC Messinian. For over 10 years they toured almost as fast as their music spread, bringing DnB all across North America.

All topped off by MC Messinian’s rapid rhymes, each DJ’s diverse style, from Dara’s rolling vibes, AK’s breakbeats, and Dieselboy’s raw speed, the Planet of the Drums was something exceptionally unique and fun that Q-Vents brought to Cervantes.

Opening Acts

Opening acts Saltee and Fury, (aka Steve Blakeley, a big hand in Reload events) set the stage for the night, getting everyone on their feet. Both knew what they were doing on the decks, bringing banger after banger.

Meanwhile, Cervantes’ quickly filled up with those who saw this as a blast from the past. Additionally, lots of younger faces wanting to witness this madness and talent. Everyone was enjoying themselves and more lasers were brought out to keep the show going when Reid Speed and Nvrsoft took the stage.

Both of these women kept the bpm up and the beats going like none other. With each of their sets, they destroyed Cervantes’ again and again before Planet of the Drums closed the night down.

MC Messinian then came out shouting and rhyming, reminding everyone who was in the house. Planet of the Drums was here and the crowd was ready.

Madness. That’s the one word that sums up the night, and I imagine the same can be said for the 10+ years Planet of the Drums toured North America. Drum and Bass is still here and as fast as ever with all the new sounds and acts coming up these days, but wouldn’t be anywhere without the pressure DJ’s like Dieselboy, AK1200, and Dara brought.
