Spooky Season is here everybody! With it comes the changing of the leaves, the blustering winds, and the cold chill of Winter’s subtle approach. But we’re not here to talk about the weather. There are TONS of incredible performances in this spooky October, with plenty of chances for new and exciting experiences. Fair warning, many of these festivals are reaching low ticket warnings or are almost sold out, so don’t sleep! This was a fun list to compile so make sure you find your taste and dig in!

#1 Desert Daze, October 10-13th, Moreno Beach, California

To begin with, starting off our list is the mellowest of them all, Desert Daze. First, this festival has incredible reviews and is a well known and looked forward to fest. In fact, it’s highest praises come from the reviews of the organizers and the venue. Lastly, this place is surreal; in an area of the world where the line between the earth and sky are truly blurred. It’s a vast open valley tucked away at the base of a mountain along Moreno Beach.

To expand, the artistic curations and pop up bazaars, marketplaces, and communities sort of turn this place into a smaller Burning Man. Expect to behold tons of beautiful and trippy things and people. Naturally, the lineup for a weird (and we mean that in a good way) festival is a little out there. A number of artists have opted to do album performances, with a 36 Chambers set from Wu – Tang Clan, Chocolate & Cheese from Ween, and The Soft Bulletin from The Flaming Lips.

#2 Aftershock Festival , October 11th -13th, Sacremento, California

Aftershock Festival aims to leave its attendees in a state of rock-induced shock. This three day alternative rock, metal, and hardcore show has a slew of reasons to attend. Firstly, Sacramento is a wonderful town teeming with music. The festival is located in the scenic Discovery Park, right in the split between the American and Sacramento river. Furthermore, there are tons of varying ticket, travel, and hotel packages at affordable prices, plus ways to earn free tickets! We’re all about the promoter life, and seeing more and more shows do this is so refreshing! Lastly, the lineup is stacked. Heavy hitters Tool, Slipknot, Blink – 182, Korn, Rob Zombie, A Day To Remember, Knocked Loose, Bring Me The Horizon, Marilyn Manson, Stone Temple Pilots, Bad Religion, and SUM 41 will all be taking to the stage over the weekend.

#3 Rolling Loud, October, 12th – 13th, New York City, New York

A step in a different direction lands us in New York City for one of the biggest hip-hop and rap festivals of the year. One of three runs and locations, Rolling Loud’s NYC show is top notch. This festival doesn’t offer a lot of information about its philosophy or vibe, but that doesn’t stop us music lovers from finding a reason to take interest. In short, this show is really about the lineup and immersing oneself in the deep and rich hip-hop culture of NYC scene. The bill lists artists Travis Scott, Meek Mill, Kodak Black, Trippie Redd, Fat Joe, A$AP ROCKY, Lil Uzi Vert, Pusha T, and $uicideboy$.

#4 Exit 111, October, 11th – 13th, Manchester, Tennessee

Exit 111 is a powerhouse. This metal and rock focused show rips the music scene, entwined with its intensity. To begin, Exit 111 is not just a music festival; it’s a three day campout, circus, motocross expo, sports bar, and a car show. To that end, this show isn’t what you’d expect out of your normal camping festival. You’ll be garrisoned around your fellow metal heads, both old and young, giving praise to the gods of darkness and metal at Exit 111. Finally, the show boasts a lot, but its stand-out bits are the HUGE names on the lineup. This year’s show features Lynyrd Skynyrd, Def Leppard, Deftones, Slayer, Anthrax, Killswitch Engage, Ghost, Mastadon, Whitechapel, and Coheed and Cambria.

#5 Breakaway Festival October, 4th – 5th, Charlotte, North Carolina

Despite the four Breakway Festivals taking place this year, we’re focusing in on the North Carolina show. This two day festival features some cool artists and is the perfect way to kill a weekend. Firstly, it’s cheap. Two day passes hover around $99 (plus fees), and there are travel packages available for us non-locals. Secondly, the festival will feature some neat installations like a Deep Eddy Vodka cocktail trailer, a roller disco, and a fitness segment curated by famous DJs. In short, this tiny festival will rock your weekend with performances by Illenium, Future, Fisher, Lil Baby, Ekali, Chelsea Cutler, Boogie, and Emogee.

#6 Freaky Deaky, October, 26th – 27th, Huston, Texas

Another key point is that the state of Texas has been putting itself on the map these past couple of years by hosting all of these incredible shows. Likewise, as an example, Freaky Deaky has been blowing up all over social media. Set to take place over the spooky Halloween weekend, Freaky Deaky hits hard with a wide variety of the darker side of dubstep and house. In addition, the spooky weekend of Halloween always adds a little extra spooky fun to the whole experience.

Located at the Houston Motor Speedway, this festival has partnered with surrounding hotels to make it as seamless and accommodating as possible. With just two nights to party, one would think they wouldn’t have enough time to catch it all but it’s quite the opposite. Finally, the lineup is where this festival really shines. Taking the stage over the weekend are artists ATLiens, Delta Heavy, Kai Wachi, AC Slater, Armin Van Buuren, Black Tiger Sex Machine, Ganja White Knight, Kill The Noise, Cash Cash, Green Velvet, Lady Faith, Junkie Kid, and Malaa.

#7 Mempho, October, 19th – 20th, Memphis, Tennessee

Memphofest is a multi genre music festival happening over the third weekend in October. To begin, this small two day festival packs punches with its diverse lineup and scenic urban festival grounds. Memphis in and of itself is a fun town and coupled along with all these artists, attendees are bound to have some fun. In addition, there’s no shortage of southern hospitality here. Plenty of tasty food, drinks, and exploration is to be had all around the city. Finally, the lineup included The Raconteurs, Brandi Carlile, The Revivalists, DJ Paul of Three 6 Mafia, Lovelytheband and many more.

#8 Dirty Bird Campout, October 4th – 6th, Modesto, California

Its important to realize that at Party Guru Press we love our house music. Dirtybird Campout returns to the West Coast for another go. To begin, this long standing festival always creates a buzz when brought up in conversation. Casual appreciators and house-heads alike LOVE the Dirtybird label. One of two annual festivals, DBC West, and its counterpart DBC East, consistently blow our socks off and here’s why.

Naturally, the festival will feature tons of DB artists and friends, but the real meat and potatoes of this show is the adult summer camp theme that has brought this label so much love. Rightly so, the festival allows for very intimate interactions with both other show goers and the artists themselves. Artists are known to wander the camps, participate in field games, and of course provide the tunes for the weekend. To conclude, the lineup this year will feature Christian Martian, Justin Jay, Eprom b2b Barclay Crenshaw, Ardalan, J. Phlip, The Librarian, Steve Darko, Shiba San, Mija, Sage Armstrong, Bob Moses, and of course, Claude VonStroke.

#10 Suwanee Hulaween October, 24th – 27th, Live Oak, Florida

Suwannee Hulaween is an Autumn spectacle. To begin, festival juggernaut Hulaween is set to take place at the end of this spooky month of October, to help reign in the spooky weekend of Halloween. One of the most talked about festivals of the season, Hulaween stands tall alongside other shows in the circuit. Indeed, Hulaween is tucked away into one of the most scenic parts of the South, and coupled with the artistic tailoring and attention to detail has earned it the colloquial title, “The Electric Forest of the South.” The scenery is spectacular.

Furthermore, camping is included with the price of your ticket! Lastly, this festival has not only earned its place as a crowd favorite amongst the show going scene, but as a favorite performance stop for artists as well! This year’s lineup features Big Wild, Walker & Royce, Umphrey’s McGee, Bassnectar, Tom MorelloString Cheese Incident, The Motet, STS9, Flying Lotus, CloZee, and CharlestheFirst.
